As a part of the “Community Outreach” component of the Ecological Stewardship initiative for Penn South Mutual Redevelopment Houses, JPLA has launched a tree labeling and ID initiative. Over the course of 2021-2022 every tree on campus has been identified and noted on the site’s baseplan. The updated base map was then converted into a color coded graphic which will be made available on the property’s website. Concurrently, JPLA designed a set of tree labels which provide identifying information and QR codes linked to selected online informational resources pertaining to each tree species. These materials give the residents an easy method of learning about their local landscape and the ecology of their broader region while establishing a personal connection with the trees that make up the campus’s canopy.
