Private: Rowayton Residence
This seaside landscape was influenced by gardens of Japan. A cedar fence was inspired by Japanese privacy fences and screens. Evergreen shrubs and rocks are sculptural elements that play with relationships of scale and symbolism. A ‘stream’ of brown skipping rocks turned sideways flows amidst a ‘sea’ of pale grey beach pebbles, which outlets into the Farm Creek saltwater marsh. Views of the rocky coastline over the Long Island Sound reflect the patterns of the garden-in-miniature on a larger scale.
